JOUR 350 Environment, Health and Media (undergrad)
This course is devoted to developing an understanding of how science, health, environmental and risk (SHER) information is communicated with the public via different media outlets. The course provides an overview of how science communication is happening in daily life and how to improve communication of scientific topics, given our knowledge of audiences and media. Real-world examples are used to illustrate the concepts and strategies.

JOUR 335. Principle of Public Relations (undergrad)
The course is designed to introduce the field of public relations to undergraduate students. For those majoring in organizational/corporate communications, this course serves as the foundation of the public relations curriculum. For those planning careers in other areas, the course provides an overview of public relations practice and will address the consistent use and value of public relations in influencing business decision-making on a daily basis in a variety of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations and situations.
JOUR 435 Advanced Public Relations (undergrad)
This course is designed to build on your existing knowledge of public relations. It is expected that you have a basic to moderate understanding of various public relations theories, key terms and ideas, models, techniques, and practices. It is designed to help you think and practice as public relations professionals. This class is highly interactive, most class projects and activities need your critical thinking and engagement.
JOUR 360 Public Relations Writing
The primary objective of this course is to master the basic writing skills of the public relations professional, both in terms of style and content. Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to complete effective, strategy-based copy for a wide range of tactics will meet clients’ needs for persuasive, professional public relations writing skills. This course is also designed to have students think critically about current events and how they relate to public relations practice.
JOUR 635 Public Relations Case, Concept, & Campaign (grad)
The purpose of this course is to develop an understanding of the theoretical body of knowledge in public relations and its application to practice. Through readings and discussion of landmark research (journal articles, book chapters, and case studies), students will examine how public relations theory has evolved over time and has become more welcoming of diverse ideas and research methodologies.
